AMBULATORY CARE
In
keeping with the nationwide emphasis on primary care, the Jacobi
residency program in internal medicine devotes substantial time
to ambulatory care experiences. Ambulatory training takes place
in our brand new, modern, state-of-the-art Ambulatory Pavilion.
This training takes place in specific outpatient rotations,
during which on-call and hospital time is kept to a minimum and
continuity clinics during which residents care for the same
panel of clinic patients on assigned days throughout the year.
Residents in the three-year internal medicine training program
have a total of five months of time devoted exclusively to
ambulatory care training. These blocks emphasize clinical
experience with patients and as they progress through the
program, residents assume graduated responsibility for the
management of ambulatory patients. Continuity clinic duty
accounts for 20% of the total curriculum time. |
