RESEARCH

The Jacobi Department of Medicine's close affiliation with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine affords many opportunities for research. Clinical or laboratory research projects are generally undertaken during elective time in the second and third years of residency.

Our close affiliation with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine affords many opportunities for research. Clinical or laboratory research projects are generally undertaken during elective time in the second and third years of residency.

Through the years, the Department of Medicine has forged close ties with leading basic science and clinical science investigators in the College of Medicine . As such, our residents have been able to perform high quality research with nationally and internationally recognized experts in nearly every sub-specialty of Internal Medicine.

Many of our residents have authored papers in top ranking scientific journals, and have frequently taken prizes at national scientific meetings. Our commitment to research is emphasized by the fact that the majority of our residents choose to spend their elective time pursuing research projects.

On the Jacobi campus, the new Price Center for Translational and Molecular Biology Research is evidence of Einstein's continuing commitment to excellence in Medical Research.

MEDICAL SCIENTIST PATHWAY

For those residents who have a strong desire to enter a career in academic medicine, Jacobi Medical Center offers the Medical Scientist Pathway (MSP). This innovative program allows motivated residents to satisfy the requirements for Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine in two rather than three years. Following this abbreviated clinical program, the resident enters the lab of a chosen faculty mentor in a medical sub-specialty (Cardiology, Hematology/Oncology, Allergy, etc.) for a period of approximately three years. Afterwards, the resident enters an accelerated Fellowship program which, when complete, allows the resident to become Board Certified in his or her chosen sub-specialty. This rigorous program provides excellent research and clinical training, and prepares the graduate to enter the competitive environment of Academic Medicine. Most graduates of the MSP program have gone on to have productive careers at leading Academic Medical Centers across the country.
